Last week, gasoline prices around the Oswego area began to spike past the $5 mark for a gallon of regular unleaded.
According to AAA, as of Monday morning, the average in Kendall County was $5.10, the average in the state of Illinois was $5.05, and the national average was $4.51.
According to the GasBuddy app, stations along Orchard Road, including the Gas N Wash and BP, reported a price of $5.29 per gallon. Stations along Route 34, including Delta Sonic and Meijer, reported prices of $4.99 per gallon.
According to PBS News, national gas prices are “high primarily due to global oil supply constraints caused by the ongoing war in Iran.”
There are also additional taxes that are included in the price of a gallon of gas, including the State of Illinois motor fuel tax ($0.48/gallon) and federal government’s excise tax ($0.18/gallon).
Some analysts are saying that gas prices may continue to rise as Americans approach the Memorial Day holiday weekend.
