Oswego Community Unit School District 308 is considering placing a bond referendum on the November 2026 ballot to help fund facility needs throughout the entire district.
The district made the announcement in a parent update to the community on Friday.
“Our school buildings need significant attention,” said the district in the update, “and we’re exploring how to address that in a way that is responsible, transparent, and fair to property owners.”
The district said that over 70% of its 22 school buildings were constructed between 2001 and 2008. “That means critical systems like heating and cooling, roofing, plubming, and electrical are all reaching the end of their useful life at the same time,” said the district. “They affect the comfort, safety, and functionality of the spaces where your children learn every day.”
The district says it has identified approximately $317 million in facility needs over the next ten years.
The district is offering two town halls in the coming weeks to help inform the public about the referendum. The first one will be at Thompson Junior High School on Monday, May 18 at 5:30 p.m. The second one will be at Boulder Hill Elementary School on Tuesday, June 2 at 5:30 p.m.
