The Village of Oswego held a groundbreaking for the beginning of construction of a second roundabout on Wolfs Crossing. This roundabout will replace a four-way stop at the intersection of Wolfs Crossing and Douglas Road.
Village administrator Dan DiSanto said that the Wolfs Crossing widening project spans a 4.5-mile stretch. He said that this roundabout is the second of a 10-part project that begins at U.S. Route 34 in Oswego and extends all the way to Eola Road in Aurora. This is also the second of four total roundabouts on Wolfs Crossing.
DiSanto said the roundabout will cost about $11 million and that about $8 million dollars of that came from federal and state grant money.
“This project reflects our continued commitment to improving traffic flow, enhancing safety, and planning for the future growth of our incredible village,” said Village President Ryan Kauffman. “This intersection is a key corridor for residents, commuters and families traveling throughout the area. The addition of a roundabout will help reduce congestion, improve efficiency, and create a safer experience for all who use it.”
Congresswoman Lauren Underwood was in attendance and said, “Projects like this….are about investing in our local families, our local businesses, our local economy, and in our future, and they are investments that pay off.”
Former state representative Keith Wheeler was also in attendance and said, “It’s really vital to the health of our village to put as much support behind these improvements as possible.”
During construction, no full road closures will be planned. However, traffic delays should be expected during that time. Work on the roundabout is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.
